PROJECT ABSTRACT

Chris’s Crib, a grassroots nonprofit, is seeking $52,405 in funding to provide outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness by providing regular access to body wipes, mobile showers, laundry services, and monthly clothing essentials. The program is designed to serve those most vulnerable by addressing a basic yet often unmet human need: hygiene. This initiative aims to restore dignity, improve health outcomes, and increase opportunities for employment and housing among unhoused populations.

The funding will be used to acquire bathing wipes, portable shower equipment, and laundry supplies; support monthly distributions of new T-shirts, socks, and underwear; and offset costs for water supply, transportation, and volunteers. The program's success will be evaluated through service usage data, community feedback, and progress tracking for participants reintegrating into society.

STATEMENT OF NEED

Homelessness continues to rise in our city, and with it, a widespread lack of access to basic hygiene services. Many unhoused individuals go days or even weeks without a proper shower or clean clothing. This contributes not only to physical and mental health challenges but also serves as a barrier to employment, housing, and social reintegration.

Chris’s Crib's goals our to serve at least 200 individuals per month, and increase these services progressively. The majority of those we serve lack access to consistent showers, laundry options, and basic undergarments—items often overlooked in charitable donations. Without intervention, this cycle of neglect perpetuates shame, isolation, and public health risks.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Chris’s Crib plans to offer three core hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness:

  1. Mobile Showers
Using mobile shower units, we will provide access to showers three times a week. Also, pass out bathing wipes, portable shower heads with pumps when possible.  We will visit shelters, parks, and encampments where need is greatest.

  2. Laundry Services
Once a week, we'll offer laundry assistance using portable washers while seeking partnerships with local laundromats to ensure dignity and cleanliness.

  3. Monthly Essentials Distribution
On the first weekend of each month, we plan to distribute new T-shirts, socks, and underwear to unhoused individuals. These are essential for health and confidence but often scarce.

The proposed expansion will increase frequency and coverage of these services, with the ultimate goal of improving self-worth, employment readiness, and long-term stability among our clients.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  1. Increase weekly hygiene service access from the current 0 to 200 individuals per month.

  2. Distribute over 2,400, or more, hygiene products and clothing items in the next 12 months.

  3. Establish at least three laundromat partnerships in underserved areas.

  4. Track service impact through participant surveys and referrals to housing or job resources.
